Embracing Our Role: Becoming Soldiers of Christ
As we continue our journey of faith, we are reminded that each of us is called to be a soldier of Christ. This isn’t just an abstract concept but a practical call to action given to us by scripture. Just as with being “fishers of men,” being a soldier requires commitment, preparedness, and a willingness to endure hardship. It’s crucial to remind ourselves what it truly means to enlist in the Lord’s army and how we might live that out each day.
Practical Steps for Living as Soldiers of Christ
Understand the Role
Being a soldier of Christ, according to 2 Timothy 2:3-4, calls for us to endure hardship, to remain steadfast in our dedication to Him, and to avoid entanglements that distract us from our mission. Like any real-life soldier, preparation and readiness are key. We must be aware of Satan’s tactics and focus our lives on pleasing our Commander.
Rejoice in Suffering
Philippians 3 invites us into the fellowship of sufferings with Christ. Recognizing that hardships may come our way, we are encouraged to find joy and purpose in these challenges. Reflect on how past experiences have drawn you closer to God and lean on the supportive community of believers who understand what it means to endure.
Cherish the Armor of God
Ephesians 6:13-18 details the armor that God has provided for us. Embrace these tools: truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, the Word, and prayer. Make it a point to remind yourself daily of these spiritual defenses, whether through scripture study or meditation, as they will fortify you against the adversary.
Engage in Fellowship and Community
Church is not just a place we go; it’s a community where we grow. Join us in drawing strength from one another. Attend services, participate in study groups, or reach out to share or seek encouragement. The “herd,” or congregation, is where we find strength in numbers against the lion prowling to devour the vulnerable.

The decision to enlist as a soldier in the spiritual army of Christ requires reflection and prayer. Consider the challenges but also the tremendous rewards — eternal fellowship with our Savior. Have faith that, as difficult as the battle may seem, the victory is already won through Jesus.
