Walking the Walk: Let’s Fix Our Eyes on Jesus
As we wrap up our sermon series on “Walking the Walk,” there’s a profound truth we’ve been circling around, one that’s both a source of comfort and a challenge: our journey with God is less about where we’ve been and more about where we’re headed. This shift in focus is mirrored beautifully in the simple analogy of driving—a windshield is larger than a rearview mirror because what’s before us is far more significant than what’s behind us.
The Heart of the Matter
In seeking a relationship with Jesus, we are constantly reminded that it’s not just about acquiring knowledge or following a set of rules. As highlighted in scripture, God has always been and will always be concerned with the heart. Consider the shepherds in Luke 2, who didn’t merely listen to the angels but felt compelled to go and witness the miracle in Bethlehem. Their hearts prompted action, a vital lesson for us as we navigate our faith journey.
Practical Steps to Apply This Message
1. Reflect on Your Focus:
Take a moment to consider where your gaze is directed. Are you looking through the windshield of life, focused on Jesus and His promises, or are you fixating on the past? Our spiritual journey thrives when our eyes are fixed on Christ, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).
2. Seek Him Earnestly:
Consider how Jeremiah 29:13 challenges us: “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Set aside time each day to genuinely seek God—through prayer, meditation, or scripture reading. Your commitment will deepen your relationship with Him.
3. Be Open to Transformation:
Invite God to unveil anything that may be obscuring your vision of Him. Whether it’s doubts, fears, or distractions, ask for His guidance to transform your heart and open your eyes to His presence in your life.
Closing Thoughts
As we go forward, remember that our walk with God is profoundly personal, stemming from the heart. Like the rich young ruler in Mark 10, we must be willing to follow Christ wholeheartedly, embracing not just the knowledge of His existence but also the love and relationship He offers.
